NewsBreaking: NBC News is reporting that Joran Vandersloot has confessed to the murder of 21-year-old Peru woman Stephany Flores.
Citing the La Republica newspaper based in Lima Peru, NBC News reports that Joran told authorities that he murdered Flores because she grabbed his laptop without his permission, and found out about his involvement in the Natalee Holloway case.
Joran allegedly told police: "I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life... she didn't have any right. I went to her and I hit her. She was scared, we argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and hit her."
Police are now planning to take Vandersloot to the crime scene at the hotel where Stephany's body was discovered to do a reconstruction of how he killed her.
The body of Flores was discovered by a hotel employee last Wednesday. Flores suffered blunt force trauma to the head, her neck was broken, she had scratches to her chin and her body was covered in bruises.
CNN is reporting that Vandersloot could be facing formal charges today, and that the legal system in Peru offers lighter sentences to those that make confessions. Vandersloot faces up to 35 years in prison.
Vandersloot is also the prime suspect in the 2005 case of Natalee Holloway -- who vanished on the island in Aruba in 2005. Vandersloot made yet another confession as recent as May of this year, when he was caught on tape trying to extort Natalee's mother Beth Holloway.
Vandersloot wanted money in exchange for telling Beth Holloway where the remains of Natalee Holloway is located. Vandersloot revealed that Natalee died after he pushed her and she fell and hit her head. He went on to say he and his father disposed of the body. However, Vandersloot did not reveal where the body was disposed of.
According to CBS News Aruban authorities are launching a new search effort, to search for the remains of Natalee Holloway.
Stay tuned as this story develops both in Aruba and in Peru.
